HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Mavericks came out of the gate clicking on all cylinders, taking a 12-2 lead over the Hawks just four minutes in with Rodney Graves and Kendall McGill scoring the Mavs first 10 points of the game.
- Medaille's defense continued to swarm over the next six minutes as they held Hilbert to just 11 points over the first 10 minutes of action, resulting in a 25-11 lead. The trio of Jonathon Smith, McGill and Graves accounted for all 25 points for the Mavs in the early going.
- From there, Ryan Hogan hit a jumper and followed with a three pointer to cut the Hawks deficit to single digits less than a minute later.
- Tyler Sealy answered with a three for Medaille to put the Mavs up 12 at the 8:43 mark of the opening half.
- The Hawks went scoreless over the next three minutes of play, while the Mavericks tacked on seven more points, capped by a pair of Rodney Graves free throws, to close out a 10-0 run giving the Mavs their largest lead of the game at 35-16 with just under six minutes to go in the first half.
- The final six minutes of the half were all Hilbert as they closed out the half on a 16-4 run, fueled by a pair of Christian Przybyla threes and capped off by a Hunter Martineau three point play to go into the intermission trailing 39-32.
- The start of the second half was a different story from the first, as the Hawks came out hot. The trio of Hawks senior guards (Hunter Martineau, Masia Phillips and Alex Karamanos) followed up a Jon Evans dunk with a jumper each to cap an 8-1 run for the royal and white, shrinking the Medaille lead to a lone point at 41-40 less than a minute and a half into the second half.
- After a Jonathon Smith layup put the Mavs up five, Hilbert went a 10-2 run to gain their first lead of the contest at 50-47 with just over 14 minutes left on the clock.
- Both teams played neck and neck for the next few minutes before a Hunter Martineau layup gave the Hawks their largest lead of the game at 63-58 with 6:24 left in the game.
- The Hawks maintained the lead until Tyler Sealy hit from three to tie it back up at 65 with 3:30 to go.
- The Mavericks then turned to their big three of Smith, Graves and McGill to close it out, as the Mavs trio scored the team's final eight points down the stretch to close out the 73-68 win.
