BUFFALO, N.Y. - D'Youville College built a solid lead by intermission and continued to extend their advantage en route to a 8-0 Buffalo Cup win over Hilbert College in women's soccer tonight.
The Hawks found themselves trailing 4-0 after forty-five minutes of action under the lights at Dobson Field and had no answer after the break as they dropped to 0-3 in AMCC standings.
The Spartans connected twice early in the game off headers following a restart kick sending  the ball past
Brianna Stegmeier to the back of the net. Â The hosts opened the second period with another header which built the 5-0 lead with 30 minutes left to the game.
Stegemeier went 60:34 minutes between the posts and made three saves off eight shots on goal. Â
Lauryn Scott saw 21 minutes of action and gave up two goals while
Katrina Meyer made her first appearance this season and allowed the final goal of the game in the 84th minute. Â
The Hawks defense limited D'Youville's offense production, even though the final score didn't reflect Hilbert's efforts. Â The royal and white held the hosts to an opponent season-low of 15 shots but the Spartans were right on target firing away from Hilbert's keepers. Â
D'Youville held a 15-5 advantage in shots and only a 5-1 bubble in corner kicks.
Macy Kisner (3 shots) and
Amber Stuck (2 shots) were credited with all three of Hilbert's shots on goal.
Fans can see the women's soccer team back in Hamburg this Saturday, October 12th when they welcome AMCC foe La Roche University in a 3:15 pm kick.
