HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College women's soccer team fell in a 4-0 home-opener defeat to Geneva College this afternoon.

The Hawks defended the Golden Tornadoes well in the open field for most of the game.  Geneva got on the board first with a carry to the box from the right side and that shot snuck past Brianna Stegmeier in the 37th minute.   Later after intermission, Geneva lifted the ball over Stegmeier's outstretched hands off a restart kick from the sideline before they headed their third ball to the back of the net off a corner kick in the 80th minute.  The Golden Tornadoes finished a ball at the top of the box that Stegmeier came out to play for the final marker of the day.

Stegmeier collected her first double-digit save effort of the season after she stopped 13 scores.   Senior defender Lauren Lepovich was credited with a "block" off one of Geneva's 32 shots on frame.  Her corner kick, defensive positioning in the back right post stopped a certain goal in the 52nd minute of action.

Junior forward Gina Mallone and freshman midfielder Amber Stuck each took two shots (one on goal) and senior forward Aurora Klawinski earned the other shot on goal today.

The Hawks will have three more non-conference home games over the next two weeks before they begin Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play.  Hilbert welcomes Thiel College September 12 (3pm) as the first game of a double header with the men's teams.  LIVE video link here
