Sokolski Homers In Hawks 7-4 Win over Geneva

FT. PIERCE, Fl. – Mathew Sokolski opened the game with a bang as the Hilbert College baseball team earned a 7-4 victory over Geneva College in the Hawks' only game of the day.

Hilbert improved to 2-3 after the win and returns to action tomorrow night in a twin bill against the same Tornado team under the lights.

Mathew Sokolski earned one hit today, but it was a long one, and he led the Hawks with 3RBIs and scored two runs.

Connor Duck, Jared Welnowski (RBI) and Tristan Aldinger each went 2-for-4, but Duck scored three runs  with an RBI.

Brandon Zicari knocked in two runs helping the Hawks to victory.

Senior Winfred Nelson went seven innings giving up one earned run while striking out two and finishing without a walk.  Junior Michael Goodberry earned his first save of the season as he came in the final 1.2 innings with bases loaded and got out of it without giving up a run.

The first four to bat for Hilbert crossed home plate before Geneva secured an out in the bottom of the first inning.  Ian Moran singled and Eric Flores reached on a fielding error.  Connor Duck hit a line drive to the right field sending Moran home just before Sokolski earned the team's first Home Run of the season.

Duck scored the Hawks' solo run in the third after an error placed him at 1st, he stole second base and made it home off Jared Welnowski's line drive to the right field.

Brandon Zicari earned an RBI when Sokolski moved around the bags in the fifth inning.

The game moved at a quick pace as both teams turned double plays to end innings in the sixth.

Geneva got on the score board in the 7th and 8th innings closing the gap to three runs, but then Goodberry came in and shut the Tornadoes down in the top of the 9th to earn his save.
