BRADFORD, Pa. - Hilbert College played for a second-set steal, but fell in straight sets to Pitt-Bradford tonight in women's volleyball.
The Panthers (16-12) improved to 6-2 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference action and jumped back into a two-way tie for second place with La Roche College while the Hawks continue to hunt for their first victory of the season and hold an 0-8 AMCC record.
Bradford won the opening set (25-11) and thought things would go their way the rest of the night.
But Hilbert jumped out to a 10-5 lead in the second set, and after back-to-back service aces by
Torianna LeWand, the Hawks built a 15-8 advantage. Bradford rallied and forced a Hilbert timeout with the Hawks still leading 15-12.
Bradford took their first lead in the second set, 21-20, then used a Hilbert service error and a Panther solo block for the win, 25-21.
The Hawks just couldn't pull it together consistently in the final set and fell 25-10 for the match loss.
Hilbert heads to Franciscan University this weekend for their final match of the 2018 season. The Hawks will face the Barons (3-21, 1-7) of Steubenville at 1pm October 27.
