STEUBENVILLE, OH - The Hilbert College women's volleyball team closed their 2018 season with a three-set loss to Franciscan University this afternoon.
Ashley Repine led the Hawks (0-20) with nine kills and added seven digs as well as a pair of solo blocks.
Torianna LeWand assisted on 19 of Hilbert's 20 team kills while
Kayla Kuzara led with 12 digs.
Natassia West (six kills), Kuzara and LeWand each earned a service ace and West and
Sara Trzepkowski chipped in eight digs each.
Franciscan (2-7) earned their second league victory but had to fight for it. Hilbert rallied in the first set and held onto the lead mid-way through the set. But the Barons strung together five quick points to build a large enough lead to pull away for the win, 25-19.
The hosts took an early lead in the second set, then they ran into a hitting dry spell and gave the Hawks a 9-7 lead. West's kill brought Hilbert closer as they trailed 16-14, but that attack point turned out to be the Hawks final point of the set. (25-14)
Hilbert and Franciscan traded points most of the third set, until a 17-17 score. The Barons earned six of their final eight points behind their offensive production.
The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference post-season tournament opens October 31 with First Round games and then progresses to the Championship weekend November 3 and 4th at the #1 seed, Penn State Behrend (8-1).
