Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball Opens AMCC Action at Home

HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference portion of the women's volleyball schedule opened today with four matches in the Hafner Recreation Center.

The Hawks went 0-2 on the day with a nightcap loss to Pitt-Greensburg at 5pm after an 11 am defeat to Franciscan University.

Franciscan then swept the day with a late-afternoon 5-set win over Medaille (25-16, 25-20, 20-25,18-25 and 18-16).

Greensburg closed the day at 1-1 by beating Hilbert late after they suffered an early morning 3-1 defeat to Medaille (29-27, 27-29, 25-18, 25-22).

In the 11 am game: Franciscan went on a 3-point run early in the first set against the Hawks and created enough separation to volley to a 25-14 win.  In the second set, Hilbert grabbed a two point lead midway through the set which forced a Franciscan timeout.  The Barons rallied and took back the edge as they held on for a 25-20 victory.  Hilbert hitting errors and passing miscues pushed points to Franciscan's side of the score board giving the green and white the match victory, 25-12.

Ashley Repine led with six kills while Torianna LeWand assisted on 12 of the Hawks' 13 team kills and posted 10 digs.  Natassia West and LeWand shared blocking duties as they each earned two block assists.
Hilbert had to find their legs again after waiting through the day for their 5pm game to actually start at 6pm.  Greensburg was sluggish as well but pulled off the 3-set win (25-17, 25-20, 25-14).

The Hawks collected 12 team kills and were led again by Repine (5).  LeWand continues to quarterback the team with eight assists and nine digs.  Sierra McLaughlin earned eight digs, just one more than Repine and Sierra Seader.

Not only did league portion of the Hawks schedule start this weekend, but the Buffalo Cup Series begins this coming Wednesday, September 27 when Hilbert travels to Medaille for a 7pm game in the Sullivan Center.
