BUFFALO, N.Y. – After playing to a scoreless first half, the Hilbert College women's soccer team surrendered five unanswered goals and fell to 0-2 on the season with the non-conference loss to SUNY Potsdam in the Spartan Classic held at D'Youville College.

Senior Brooklynn Gormel and freshman  Josephine Ban were named to the Spartan Classic All-Tournament Team along with Cazenovia's Alyssa Conolly and Carmen D'Agostino, D'Youville's Makenna Magee and Magan Magee, as well as Potsdam's Rachael Venne and Maeve Morrisey.

Potsdam kept the pressure on Hilbert's defense maintaining control of the tempo most of the contest.  The Bears outshot the Hawks 36-1 with a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Jenna Castricone made nine saves in the first half.  Potsdam broke away off a header to the back of the net in the 51st minute and follow up with a hard shot that slipped through Castricone's hands for the 2-0 lead. 

Freshman Briana Stegmeier played the final 35 minutes of the second half and was credited with six saves against three goals.

The Hawks will play their home opener Wednesday, September 6 against Alfred University with a 5pm kick-off.
