Women's Lacrosse Grabs a 20-4 AMCC Victory Against D'Youville

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Hilbert College women's lacrosse team took advantage of their free position shots, played a complete game and earned their first win of the season after posting a 21-4 AMCC win at D'Youville College.

Brooklynn Gormel led the Hawks with 10 shots and shared game-high scoring honors with Emily Gawlak as they each netted five times.

Hilbert converted on 8 of their 12 free position shots, led by Nikki Schneider who went 3-for-4.

Gawlak, who currently leads Division III with a 9.5 draw control count (April 4), exploded with 15 draw control improving her chances of three-peating at #1.

Ashley Repine made four saves and earned her first collegiate victory in the cage.

Veterans Nikki Schneider (3 goals), Marisa Huffman (2 goals) and Victoria Santos (1 goal) got a taste of victory again as they shared scoring efforts with Crystle Marion and Taylor Corts.

Emily Speidel and Alayna DeFazio found the back of the net and dropped their sticks to the ground in celebration after their first collegiate goal.

The Spartans got on the board first beating Repine less than four minutes after the first draw.  The Hawks went on a 7-0 run scoring six unassisted goals before the half time horn sounded.

Gawlak started the action at the start of the second half scoring her 16th goal of the season.  After D'Youville found their fourth point in the game, the Hawks closed the night with seven more unanswered goals.  Gormel netted a second-half hat-trick in the course of 14 minutes.

Taylor Corts was intimidating on defense as she was credited with five caused turnovers and shared team-high honors of three ground balls with Schneider and Gormel.

Hilbert outshot the first year Spartans 33-18, scooped 26 ground balls and converted 10-of-11 clears.

The Hawks (1-4) take to the road again this Friday when they travel to Lancaster Bible College for a 4pm NEAC game April 7.
