AURORA, N.Y. – The Hilbert College women's lacrosse team built a five-goal lead over Wells College, but the Express rallied to force overtime, then capped off their come-back by taking a 12-11 victory from the Hawks.
Hilbert (2-8, 1-6) jumped out early in the first minute of the game. The Hawks scored three straight goals before six-seconds ticked off the game clock.
Nikki Schneider scored back-to-back goals, followed by
Emily Gawlak's hit with 29:04 on the clock.
Wells responded with five straight markers and then Schneider finished the scoring in the first half with two goals sandwiched around an Express goal which set the 6-5 score in favor of the hosts.
Crystle Marion scored her ninth goal of the season to start the second-half rally that saw four different players contributing to the six-goal run which put Hilbert back on top, 11-6 with about 10 minutes to go in the game.
Wells took over the game in the final five minutes of action. They found their way to the back of the net in a flurry, scoring four goals over a span of ninety-seconds and then knotted the game at 11 with 0:51 on the game clock.
Ashley Repine faced two shots in the first 3-minute overtime period. She made her 19th save in the game before the Express snuck one past her in the 63rd minute of action.
Schneider led with seven points (6g), six ground balls and six caused turnovers.
Brooklynn Gormel chipped in a pair of goals and Gawlak (12 draw controls), Marion and
Marisa Huffman closed Hilbert's scoring.
The Hawks return to action tomorrow when they travel to Keuka College for a 1pm NEAC game.
