UTICA, N.Y. –Hilbert College built an early lead but fell behind late and slipped in a non-conference baseball game at Utica College this afternoon.
The Hawks and Pioneers battled the weather, delaying the game one hour before the hosts grabbed an 8-6 victory. The second game was canceled due to field conditions and darkness.
Eric Flores gave the Hawks a run off his double to left field.
Dalton Reynolds followed with a single to center which pushed
Ryan Bonafede home. And
Michael Best closed the first inning scoring with a 2-run RBI double to left field scoring Reynolds and Flores.
Kevin Moore hit an RBI single lifting Hilbert to a 5-1 lead mid-way through the fourth inning.
The Pioneers inched closer with a single run in the fourth and then posted four runs in the fifth inning to build a 6-5 lead. Utica added another two runs in the sixth and limited Hilbert to a solo run in the seventh which preserved their win.
Taylor Haug went 2-for-2 with a double and scored a run.
Eric Flores went 2-for-4 scored one run, knocked in two runs and hit one of the Hawks three doubles.
Ryan Bonafede and
Kevin Moore also posted a 2-for-4 day at the plate, but Bonafede scored twice and hit the only triple on the day for either team.
Michael Voveris took the loss with nine hits, five earned runs, three walks and one strike out through five innings.
Hilbert (7-16), in order to get the non-conference double header game in, will travel to Alfred State April 22.
