KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – Hilbert College gave up seven 4th quarter goals and suffered a 14-7 NEAC loss at Keuka College in men's lacrosse this afternoon.
Adam Zawadzki was credited with 18 saves for Hilbert and set a new career high as he took his 4th loss of the season as a first-year starter.
Six different Hawks scored, led by
Edward Mathias' pair of markers, one in each half.
Matthew Simon was one of the six guys beating the Wolves' goalie and he led the royal and white with two assists picking up three points.
Keuka unleashed double-digit shots in all four quarters and their defense prevented the Hawks from reaching past eight per quarter. The Wolves held a 32-14 advantage in shots on goal, won 14 of the 24 face-offs and forced Hilbert into 30 turnovers.
Nathaniel Hyman earned six ground balls with 15 of the 20 Hawks who played earning at least one ground ball.
Tyler Balsavage led on defense with four caused turnover and scooped three ground balls after the play.
Hilbert jumped out to a 2-0 lead after seven minutes of action and added another goal with just under two minutes to go in the first quarter. That was all the Hawks found offensively until the 12 minute mark in the third quarter when
Garrett Knoll converted on a
Tyler Nicoloff feed to the back of the net. Simon scored unassisted also in the third quarter and by the start of the final session, Hilbert trailed 7-5.
Keuka added three more hits at the beginning of the fourth and Mathias' second goal of the day (man-down) broke the hosts' string of scores.
Codie Thomas helped Hilbert with a man-up goal at 10:27 cutting the difference to three goals (10-7) but the Wolves went wild with four goals more before the final horn.
Hilbert (5-4) welcomes SUNY Cobleskill to Hamburg for another NEAC game. Hilbert at 1-2 will battle the 0-3 Tigers (3-5 over) at 3:30 pm April 15.
