MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Morrisville State pulled away early in the first half and claimed a 21-5 season opening women's lacrosse NEAC victory over Hilbert College this afternoon.
The Hawks fell behind 2-0 in the game's first four minutes.
Crystle Marion and
Nikki Schneider combined for a Hilbert two-goal run spaced 20-seconds apart and evened the game at 2-2 by 21:09.
The Mustangs then blitzed Hilbert with 11-unanswered goals which stretched into the second half of action.
Emilyl Gawlak stopped the bleeding with her first goal with 21:46 left in the game and then scored back-to-back goals midway through the second session which completed Hilbert's offense success at 15-5.
Morrisville held advantages over Hilbert in all aspects statistically. The Hawks trailed the Mustangs 16-12 in Draw Controls which was the best match-up on the day.
Taylor Corts led Hilbert with four ground balls and
Brooklynn Gormel was credited with three caused turnovers. Gawlak won five draw controls and Schneider earned four.
Ashley Repine collected nine saves in her third game between the pipes.
Hilbert (0-3, 0-1 NEAC) returns to league action tomorrow night (7pm) when they host Cazenovia College at Dobson Field. The women's NEAC game will follow the Hilbert/Franciscan men's AMCC contest which begins at 5pm.
