ERIE, Pa. – Hilbert College traveled to Penn State Behrend this afternoon to host their first AMCC set of games this season. The Hawks faced a pair of hot pitchers dropping both games 7-3 and 8-2.
Taylor Haug went 4-for-8 on the day, scored one and hit an RBI double in the opening game.
Ryan Bonafede was 3-for-7 and also matched Haug's efforts with a double while posting a single RBI in the second game.
Behrend's two pitching aces combined for 18 strike outs today.
GAME 1
Behrend jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings and added one more run in the top of the 4th before Bonafede's single RBI in the bottom half got the Hawks on the board. Haug knocked a double down the left field line and scored
Izaiah Diaz cutting the score to 6-2 by the top of the 6th. Behrend scored their final run off a bases-loaded situation before Hilbert finished their scoring efforts off a fielder's choice hit in the bottom of the 7th.
Haug went 2-for-4 as he Bonafede and Diaz earned the team's RBIs.
Michael Voveris tossed his first complete game of the year.
GAME 2
Behrend posted three quick runs in the top of the 1st while holding the Hawks to a solo run in the bottom half. Hilbert cut their deficit to one run when they posted a second score in the 2nd inning but that was all their offense could muster. The Lions padded their 3-2 lead with runs in the even-innings to finish with an 8-2 victory.
Haug and Bonafede each went 2-for-4 and they collected more than half of the Hawks 7 hits in the game.
Bonafede's double in the third inning put
Kevin Moore in scoring position and
Michael Best earned an RBI ground out for Hilbert's final run. Diaz was stranded on third base after he doubled down the right field line in the bottom of the 9th.
Tristan Aldinger look his third loss as he gave up eight hits, four earned runs and struck out three through five innings.
The Hawks will travel for another AMCC match-up this weekend. They will battle the AMCC preseason favorites La Roche College April 1 in a 1pm DH contest.
