HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College women's bowling team officially kicked off their inaugural season of NCAA Division III competition this afternoon when they welcomed another first-year team, Saint Vincent College to Braymiller's Lanes in Hamburg.Â
Opening game jitters got the best of the Hawks as they dropped the 787 to 736 first game to the Bearcats. Hilbert rebounded in the second game with a 769-696 win before they suffered a 726-642 5-game Baker set loss moving to an early season 1-2 overall record.
Jennifer Roback became the first bowler to roll a ball on behalf of the Division III program. She and
Alicia Alguire led the Hawks in scoring during the opening set of games. Roback posted a 381 while Alguire held a one pin advantage (382) after setting a new individual game score of 201 in the second game victory.
Mikayla Rix notched a 313 and
Mackenzi White combined for a 263 while
Alyssa Przywara rolled a 166.
St. Vincent claimed the 5-set Baker match en route to earning their program's first historical victory.
The Hawks return to action this weekend when they compete in the eight-team Medaille Invitation Tournament at Classic Lanes in Buffalo. Hilbert is set to face Medaille, Daemen, Roberts Wesleyan and Penn State Behrend November 4. They will return Sunday, the 5th for a two more Baker matches before they move on to positional-round games beginning at 10:30 am.
