Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Bradford Escaped With a 1-0 Win In Men's Soccer

HAMBURG, N.Y. – Hilbert College battled all afternoon.

But it was one shot that lifted the visiting Panthers from Pitt.-Bradford to a 1-0 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference victory in a hard-fought and exciting men's soccer game.

After playing about 40 minutes of scoreless soccer, a thirty-minute rain delay could have done either team in when they returned to the field.  But the effort and pace of the game was the same, other than the wet and slippery playing conditions.

Bradford broke the 0-0 tie in the 81st minute with a shot off a loose ball that was played infront of their team bench which beat Hilbert's Tucker Reynolds (12 saves) out-stretched arms.

The Hawks had several opportunities in the final 10 minutes of play, but Bradford's keeper made one great save and one of his defenders deflected away a sure-Travis Hicks goal.

"We were strong defensively throughout the match and created several meaningful opportunities on the corner," said coach Mike Ertel.  "Overall, a few key plays made the difference in the result.  We will continue to make progress in training and give a positive response this weekend when we travel to Pittsburgh."

Hilbert produced their most explosive offensive effort this season.  The Hawks took 18 shots and attempted seven corner kicks.

Garrett Rehner, Brandon Bundschuh and Travis Hicks each took four shots.  Nicholas Clay, Bundschuh, Ryan Schupp, and Jon Saeli were credited with shots on goal.

The Hawks (0-10, 0-4) hit the road this weekend for another AMCC contest at La Roche College October 7 at 1pm.
