ALFRED, N.Y. – Hilbert College closed their 2017 season tonight with a 3-1 road loss at Alfred State in women's soccer.
Kayela Perkins netted her first collegiate goal in the second half, but the Hawks ran out of fire-power and fell to 2-13-1 on the year.
"It was tough to lose the last game of the season but I was proud of the team," said coach
Kelly Starchok. "They displayed the intangibles of effort, heart, showed up to play and left if all on the field tonight."
Both teams defended well and held each other in check through a scoreless first half. Hilbert's
Jenna Castricone made four saves off the five Pioneer shots while the Hawks were limited to zero shots.
The hosts connected twice in the first 15-minutes of the second period before Perkins put the Hawks on the scoreboard.
Gina Mallone played a through ball to
Josephine Ban down the left flank. Ban attacked the near post and shot on frame. Alfred State's goal keeper mishandled the shot and Perkins poked it to the back of the net, slicing the goal differential to just one score.
A-State putting the game out of reach after they responded with a final marker later in the match.
Castricone collected seven saves and Perkins took two shots, while Ban was un-credited for one shot.
The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) First Round play-off games are scheduled for Saturday, October 28th with seed #4 hosting #5 and seed #3 hosting #6. #1 undefeated Penn State Behrend and #2 Mt. Aloysius (7-2) earned a pass directly to the semi-finals and will host the winners of the First Round games next Wednesday, November 1.
