BRADFORD, Pa. –
Hunter Martineau's 11 assists feed his hungry teammates as all five Hilbert starters posted double figure points in an 90-80 road win over Pitt.-Bradford tonight.
Kirkland Ottey led the Hawks with 21 points while his swing man,
Jalen Smith notched 16 along with three assists.
Derrek Carman scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds while
Nicholas Parucki tossed in 10 points including a 3-point shot.
Hunter Martineau, already the league's assist leader and assists/game leader, added to his impressive numbers with 11 more tonight while balancing his distribution with 12 points off 4-of-5 field goals and 4 for 4 at the foul line.
Joseph Braniecki added seven rebounds and seven points as
Masia Phillips contributed off the bench with 13 quality minutes and six points.
The first half was an evenly played game. After
Kirkland Ottey put Hilbert on the board first, Bradford responded with a 7-2 run and built their largest lead 9-4 early in the open period. The Panthers maintained that 5-point lead for three consecutive possessions as Hilbert matched their effort, basket for basket.

Masia Phillips combined their skills and lifted Hilbert back on top for the second time since the opening tip. From that point forward, neither team was able to stretch their advantage by more than three points.
Hilbert built their largest lead 38-35 in the final minute of the first half, thanks to
Derrek Carman's made free throws, and Braniecki and Martineau's bankers in the paint.
Nicholas Parucki started the second half hitting back-to-back buckets and Carman followed as the Hawks dumped the ball inside to go at Bradford's interior defense. A trio of Hilbert blocks kept the Panthers at bay and great defensive positioning forced rushed shots and turnovers.
Ottey stopped and popped in transition for a quick 47-39 advantage, but Bradford followed with their own deep shot and a layup to cut the score to 47-44.
Bradford found their rhythm beyond the arc, hitting a pair of 3-pointers and sliced the score to one point. Phillips came up with a loose ball in the paint to put the Hawks back up 62-59 at 9:56.
On their next two trips, Manny Welch plastered two more shots from downtown and gave Bradford their first lead in the second half, 65-64.at 9:01.
Both teams traded buckets until
Jalen Smith struck for his first three pointer of the game at 7:25 which started a 12-0 Hilbert run that lasted for almost four minutes. At 3:50 the Panthers got excited with a 3-point make, but Smith answered right back, maintaining an 11-point Hilbert lead with 3:17 on the clock.
Bradford began to foul at 1:36 to extend the game. The Hawks went 5-for-7 in that time frame while the Panthers attempted their come back from behind the 3-point line.
Hilbert closed the game with an impressive 53.8% field goal shooting night, maintained possession of the ball as they were credited with only seven turnovers and finished with 19 assists. The Hawks scored 17 points off turnovers and outscored the Panthers by 10 points (42-32) in the paint.
Hilbert (9-7, 6-4) returns to the Hafner Recreation Center for a 3pm tip against AMCC rival Penn State Altoona Saturday, January 21.
