Gormel Grabs Career-High Points in Loss

HIRAM, OH – After spotting Hiram College a double-digit lead by half time, the Hilbert College women's lacrosse team pulled together on defense and held the Terriers to just six second half goals.

The Hawks had a huge hole to dig out of as they lost a 23-12 road game in Ohio.

Brooklyn Gormel and Nikki Schneider combined for 10 of the Hawks 12 goals with Gormel netting six goals.

Jennifer Cheatom scored her first collegiate goal midway through the first half and Victoria found the back of the net becoming the Hawks only other scorer.

Goalie Allison Austin made seven saves on the 36 shots which headed her way.

Gormel got the Hawks on the board first less than 50-seconds into the game.  Hiram responded with three quick hits in a span of 62-seconds before Gormel tallied twice to even the score at 3-3.

Hiram put two more points on the score board yet Hilbert fought back and took another lead.  Schneider, Cheatom and Gormel built a 6-5 score by 14:52.  Hiram knotted the score again at 14:17 and three minutes later, Gormel gave Hilbert their final lead in the game (7-6).

The Terriers worked for three more markers, and at 6:14 Santos scored her fifth goal this season.

By the time intermission arrived, Hiram put together eight more goals to take a 17-8 half time lead.
