HAMBURG, N.Y. – After an early 3-0 lead at the start of the game, the Hilbert College women's lacrosse team lost their momentum and battled to a 16-8 loss to Franciscan University this afternoon on campus.
Franciscan, at 7-3, is currently on a seven-game win streak while the Hawks continue to play for their first win of the season.
Nikki Schneider scored her 22nd goal of the season to put Hilbert up 1-0 and
Paige Chatt and
Kelly Mandell followed right after within the next 11-minutes of play.
Beginning at 16:10, the Barons went on an 8-2 run to take an 8-5 lead to intermission.
Things continued at the same pace during the second half as the visitors pulled away with a 4-goal spree.
Victoria Santos,
Brooklyn Gormel and
Nikki Schneider each netted a pair of goals for Hilbert while Chatt and Mandell added their two scores in the beginning minutes.
Allison Austin finished with 12 saves and
Harlie Decker fought for five ground balls.
The Hawks return to the field tomorrow when they travel to Hiram College for a 4pm game. They will host Medaille College Tuesday, April 19 back in Hamburg.
