BROCKPORT, N.Y. – After grabbing a 3-0 lead at the start of the game, the Hilbert College men's lacrosse team surrendered nine-unanswered goals to fall in a 13-4 defeat at The College of Brockport this afternoon.
Senior
Andrew Tirabassi scored a pair of goals to lead the 1-3 Hawks against the 5-1 Golden Eagles. Senior
David DeCocq and junior
Matthew Simon also found the back of the net in the cold and wet non-conference game.
Brockport's Liam Cannon's three tallies led ten players who notched at least one marker.
The Golden Eagles controlled the pace of the game by outshooting the Hawks (50-18), by scooping 12 more ground balls (25-13) and winning 16 of the 20 face-offs. The Hawks struggled in offensive transition as they were tracked for 25 turnovers converting only 22 of 34 clears.
Aaron Valino and
Brady Metcalf led with a pair of ground balls each and Metcalf won 4 of 18 face-offs.
Chase Harmon earned a team-high two caused turnovers today.
Matthew Simon beat the Brockport goalie less than five minutes into the first quarter. Ninety seconds later,
David DeCocq scored his second goal of the season padding the lead by two and
Andrew Tirabassi tallied at 6:01 for Hilbert's last goal of the first half.
Brockport strung together five second period scores and continued on into the middle of the third quarter to finish with ten-straight scores. Tirabassi second score of the day with 4:43 left in the third turned out to be Hilbert's final score.
Brockport closed the game with three more hits over an 18-minute span.
Brenden Deady took the loss between the pipes but produced another double-digit save performance making 16 saves in 51-minutes. Freshman
Elijah Ryan saw his first action this spring and picked off three saves while letting one slip by.
Hilbert opens up North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play next week when they travel to Wells College for a March 30 league game. Fans can follow the 4pm contest via their
