Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Hyman Leads Lacrosse to 1st NEAC Win

AURORA, N.Y. – The Hilbert College men's lacrosse team opened the North Eastern Athletic League portion of their 2016 schedule with an 11-6 road win over Wells College this afternoon.

Brenden Deady added another double-digit save day to his portfolio and Nathan Hyman produced an all-around impressive performance as Hilbert improved to 2-3 and dropped the Express to 1-5.

Hyman collected five points scoring three goals and assisting on two others.  He led the Hawks with nine ground balls and caused a pair of Wells turnovers.

Deady made 13 saves off the 19 shots on goal that he faced. Today marked his 5th straight multiple save game through 276 minutes between the pipes in 2016.

James Duffy added four assists to his one marker and Matthew Simon led the Hawks with 13 shots, scoring twice and adding an assist.

Brady Metcalf was credited with an assist and five ground balls as he went 9-17 in the face-off circle.

Connor Harman added four ground balls while Simon and Wayne McDonald each tacked on three ground balls.

The Hawks outshot Wells 45-34 and finished with five fewer turnovers (19-24).  Hilbert hustled to five more ground balls (38-33) and won two more face-offs (11-9).  Neither team took advantage of their man-up situations as both teams produced a 0-for-7 result.

Hyman tallied twice in the first quarter to force a 2-2 tie.

Simon took a Hyman-pass to the back of the net just 10-seconds into the second quarter to lift the Hawks by one goal and that lead stuck through half time.  David DeCocq and Patrick Crangle each scored unassisted goals while the Express struck twice before the break as well.

Duffy and Metcalf connected early in the third quarter while Simon scored his second with just under six minutes left in the session (7-4).  After Wells cut the lead to two, Andrew Tirabassi and Duffy stretched it back to 8-5.

Hilbert held the Express to one single fourth-quarter score and tacked on three more markers before the final horn.  Duffy and Hyman were first at 12:21 then Duffy and Simon worked together at 5:38.  With just under 80-seconds remaining, Hyman worked his way to the back of the net for the final 11-6 score.

NEAC play continues this weekend when the Hawks travel to SUNY Cobleskill Saturday, April 2 in a 1pm face-off.
