BUFFALO, N.Y. – Hilbert's
Nikki Schneider and Loras' Kaitlyn Kutsch were battling head-to-head this afternoon in the women's lacrosse game played at Dobson Field in the lower Westside of Buffalo.
Kutsch led all scorers with 10 goals and a pair of assists as the Duhawks beat the Hawks 20-14. Hilbert was led by Schneider's eight goals after she won five draw controls on her 21st birthday.
After sixty-minutes of action, both teams went to their sidelines for half-time knotted 8-8. Both Schneider and Kutsch were credited with four goal by the break.
Fouls called against Hilbert led to free position scoring opportunities for Loras as the out-of-towners converted 8 of their 13 FPS by the final horn. When not scoring one-on-one against Hilbert's goalie
Allison Austin, Loras tossed the ball around the crease and found open players for quick shots stuffing eight assists into the stat sheet.
Hilbert earned most of their goals from sprints to the circle and shots that beat Ashley McGee. One spot that the Hawks weren't successful in were their free position shots hitting only 3 of 11. The Hawks were credited with only four assists and three unassisted free position scores.
The rest of the stat-line was pretty even. Loras and Hilbert finished with 37 and 36 shots, respectively. The Duhawks had four more shots on goal than Hilbert although they were credited with six more turnovers.
Hilbert scooped up three more ground balls (27-24) but struggling winning the ball in draw controls (25-11).
Austin collected 10 saves while McGee posted 12 saves in the sixty minute game than ran for 2 hours and 20 minutes with all the stoppage.
Besides Schneider's eight scores,
Olivia Tom was the only other multi-goal scorer hitting the Duhawks up for two.
Brooklyn Gormel,
Victoria Santos,
Paige Chatt and
Marisa Huffman each netted once. Santos and
Kelly Mandell were credited with the four team assists.
Austin led the hosts with six ground balls all in the circle while Gormel (three caused turnovers) and
Nickee Thibault picked-up five ground balls each.
The 0-5 Hawks return to action this week when they travel to Cazenovia College March 24 for a 4pm game.
