MYRTLE BEACH, SC – After trailing by one goal at half time, the Hilbert College men's lacrosse team was outscored in the second-half by four as the Hawks suffered a 13-8 non-conference loss at Greensboro College this morning.
Matthew Simon led the Hawks with three goals and one assist and
Andrew Tirabassi tallied two goals (1 a).
Greensboro doubled Hilbert's' shots (55-26) and shots on goal (33-18) but thanks to great goal-tending, the Hawks were defeated by only five goals.
Brenden Deady was credited with his second 20-save performance in the early portion of the 2016 schedule.
The Hawks were 20-for-26 in successful clears but won only 2 for the 22 face-offs and picked-up 26 of the possible 71 ground balls tracked.
Nathaniel Hyman,
James Duffy and
Marc O'Neill added the remaining single goals and Duffy,
Travis Hicks and
David DeCocq each posted an assist.
Hilbert led 3-2 at the end of the first quarter and gave the Pride one goal in a man-up situation.
Greensboro rallied back in the second period and outscored the Hawks 3-1 and took a 5-4 lead to half time.
Simon started the third quarter with a goal less than three-minutes into action to tie the score at 5-5, but the Pride responded with four more goals, cut in middle by a Tirabassi score at 5:26.
Greensboro stretched their lead by six (12-6) at 4:54 in the final session. Simon and Hyman each scored an unassisted goal in the game's final three minutes to cut the difference to five scores by the horn.
The 1-2 Hawks don't play again until March 23 when they travel to The College at Brockport for a 4pm contest.
