Hawks Basketball Prepares For Tournament Action

HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College women's and men's basketball teams at are going to be busy this weekend with back-to-back games on November 18 and 19.

Melissa Graham and her team are flying to Raleigh, North Carolina to participate in the Jackie Ammons Memorial Tournament while Rob deGrandpre and his Hawks prepare to host the Hawks Against Hunger Tip-Off Tournament.

The women's team opens Friday at 6pm against Huntingdon College (Montgomery, Alabama) in the two-day tourney hosted by William Peace University.  The Hawks will face either Berry College (GA) or the hosts Saturday with the consolation game set for 1pm and the championship to follow at 3pm.  Live Stats / streaming video will be available for fans who aren't traveling to North Carolina for the weekend.

The men's team is excited to host their 7th annual tournament and this fall they welcome two New York schools, Cazenovia and Fredonia, as well as Mount Union from Alliance, OH.   Fredonia and Mount Union will tip at 6pm and the Hawks and Cazenovia will follow at 8pm.

Hilbert took the title (88-71 over RPI) last November for only the second time in six years.  Fredonia is making their second appearance having participated in the 2012 Classic.  Cazenovia and Mount Union are joining the show for the first time.

There is a $5 admissions charge per day for the tournament.  All games will be live streamed, but no live stats are available.

The men's basketball program has partnered with the Buffalo City Mission to put warm meals on the tables of those less fortunate during the holiday season.  Fans attending the opening weekend games have the opportunity to donate $1.98 at the door to ensure a meal is provided for someone at the City Mission's 100 E. Tupper Street location.  Donations in other amounts will also be accepted.

Both the women's and men's team won their first game of the season November 15 with victories over Elmira College.  Hilbert took a 12-point victory (77-65) in the women's 6pm game and the men's team defeated the Soaring Eagles by 10 points (74-64) in the night cap.
