HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 defeat to Penn State Behrend tonight. The Hawks fall to 1-4 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference while the Lions earned their first victory after three starts.
In the opening set, Hilbert struggled through a long stretch of hitting errors and fell behind early. Behrend posted double-digit kills in all three sets and hit their way to a 25-14 score.
The Hawks trailed 11-7 in the second set, but communication errors and five service aces by the Lions created enough separation as the visitors claimed a 25-15 victory.
The third set was much different. Hilbert played with speed and intensity and the Hawks didn't allow little things to pull them down. Hilbert knotted the game at 13-13 and then took their only lead of the night at 16-15 off a
Morgan Ott service ace. Behrend regrouped and pulled out a 25-19 match victory.
Morgan Ott was the only Hawk to finishing hitting in the positives. She also drove the offense with 16 assists and three service aces. Hilbert closed the match with a -.083 attack percentage and 20 digs.
Penn State Behrend finished with a .227 attack percentage and eight service aces along with four blocks at the net.
The women's volleyball team (4-12 overall) have a few days away from competition. They host Cazenovia College next Monday night, October 10 at 6pm.
