HAMBURG, N.Y. – Three Hawks led Hilbert's offensive attack tonight as the hosts picked up a 3-0 victory over Cazenovia College (0-17) in a non-conference women's volleyball match.
Morgan Ott directed the offense and collected 26 assists and most of her quick sets were to
Ashley Repine who led with nine kills.
Torianna LeWand and Amanda Binder chipped in eight kills each as the Hawks finished the match with 37 kills, hitting at .181 clip.
The Royal and White earned 12 service aces, many of them delivered in the opening and closing set. LeWand and
Victoria Siracuse led with four aces a piece.
Three Hawks posted double-digit digs as well. LeWand got to 11 digs and Siracuse and
Anissa Quiroga were credited with 10 each.
Hilbert opened up an early lead in the first set building an 18-6 score but the Wildcats rallied back to a 21-13 margin before Hilbert pushed to a 25-17 victory.
Cazenovia jumped out to a very early lead in the second set before the Hawks took back the game.
Morgan Ott tied the game at 16-each off a service ace and helped Hilbert to a 19-17 lead. Passing and hitting errors by the host gave Caz a light to chase and they got right back into the game at 22-22. The Wildcats earned a point off a kill and took a 23-22 lead and tacked one more on taking a 24-22 advantage off a Hilbert hitting error.
Repine cut the score to one point difference off a dink at the net and forced a 24-24 tie off a kill. Cazenovia made an attack error putting
Kamalei Lene behind the service line again. She closed the game with her only service ace today, lifting Hilbert to a 26-24 win.
The final set went Hilbert way from the start. They took advantage of Cazenovia's inconsistent passing and over passing which gave the Hawks unassisted kills en route to a 25-13 set and match victory.
Up next for Hilbert (5-12) will be a weekend day trip to Alfred, NY. The Hawks are scheduled to play Alfred State and Alfred University on Friday, October 14 AT ALFRED STATE. Then the next day, Hilbert returns to Alfred University to battle of Maine Fort Worth and Morrisville State.
