ALFRED, N.Y. – After a quick trip to the town of Alfred, the Hilbert College women's volleyball team traveled back to Hamburg with a pair of defeats in matches play in the Orvis Activities Center.
The Hawks fell 25-14, 25-17, 25-16 to the hosts, Alfred State in a 5pm match. The Pioneers, who stand at 16-2 on the season, controlled the match from start to finish. Hilbert closed the night with 25-21, 25-20, 25-19 loss to Alfred University (10-12) who car-pooled across the street to A-State's campus.
Amanda Binder averaged 2.67 kills per set while
Torianna LeWand posted 2.50 kills and led with 4.83 digs per set.
Victoria Siracuse added 4.17 digs per set and
Morgan Ott tossed 6.83 assists per set.
For the day, Hilbert earned a .096 attack percentage while their opponents hit at a .331 clip.
In the first match of the afternoon, Hilbert had three players reach for seven kills each.
Ashley Repine (.429), LeWand and Binder combined for 21 of the Hawks 25 kills. A trio of Hawks earned double-digit digs with Siracuse leading the way with 12. LeWand and
Anissa Quiroga matched efforts with 10 apiece.
The Hawks earned 10 kills (.214) in their first set against Alfred University in night cap. LeWand led with a .200 hitting percentage earning eight kills and 19 digs. AU collected 29 kills with only six hitting errors (.343) and 11 service aces.
Hilbert returns to Alfred on Saturday for day two of the tourney with both games on the Alfred University campus. The Hawks will face U of Maine, Fort Worth at 12 pm and Morrisville State at 2pm in the McLane Center.
