HAMBURG, N.Y. –
Sean Weisansal set a new Hilbert College men's basketball single game assist record as his unselfish play and his teammate's impressive shooting percentage led to the Hawks 108-66 victory over Franciscan University this afternoon.
Weisansal jumped into the Hawks' All Time career assists top 10 when he dished for 16 assists in 32-minutes of action. The senior guard also chipped in 10 point and five rebounds as the Hawks improved to 16-4 overall
The win, combined with Greensburg's loss at Bradford this afternoon, moves the Hawks (10-3) back into a two-way tied with Greensburg (9-3).
Jerame Owens shot 11-for-13 from the floor and hit 4-of-5 free throws to collect 26 points to lead all scorers.
Ryan Bradt was perfect from the floor hitting all five shots to add 13 points and five rebounds.
David Arlaud (12 points) and
Malique McCoy also posted double digit scoring for Hilbert.
The Hawks outrebounded the Barons 41-28 and finished the game shooting 59.7 percent from the field (7-18 beyond the arc).
Hilbert built an 11-point lead at 12:33 for the first double-digit spread. Franciscan hung around for the next six minutes and closed the gap to nine (38-29) when Hilbert gave up a three-pointer at 5:21.
The Hawks closed the half with a 14-5 run with several players each contributing four-points or more in that run.
Owens opened the second half with a bucket at 19:33 to establish a +20 point spread and the game played out from there.
All 14-Hilbert players were credited with at least one stat-line in the forty-minute game.
The Hawks have five games remaining on their regular season schedule. They travel to Bradford Wednesday, Feb.3 and La Roche College Saturday, Feb 6. Bradford is currently in 6
th place as La Roche trails the Hawks and Greensburg with one additional loss.
