ALFRED, N.Y. – The Hilbert College women's volleyball team opened their 2015 season at a tri-match hosted by Alfred State College September 4. The Hawks battled to a 3-2 non-conference loss to D'Youville College and closed the evening with a 3-0 defeat to A-State.
Amanda Binder and
Chelsea Adamski led with 9 and 8 kills respectively in the opening game, but the Hawks finished the match hitting .000 percent.
Morgan Ott was credited with 23 assists and
Ashley Viengmay collected 22 digs.
Anissa Quiroga posted her first double-dig dig game (10) while Ott posted three service aces.
D'Youville, coming off an early loss to Alfred State, took the first set 25-20. Hilbert found their legs and claimed the next two (25-16 and 25-22) before the Spartans grabbed the fourth (25-15) to force one more set. The red and white from Buffalo beat the royal and white from Hamburg to 15 points first (15-12) to win the match.
A-State rushed to a shut-out match victory in the 7pm game Friday evening. The Pioneers limited Hilbert's offensive production and won 25-14, 25-11, 25-18 as they swept their opponents. Alfred State closed hitting .225 from the net collecting 29 team kills while Hilbert earned 11 kills but hit in the negative (-.104).
Ott put together a four-kill, seven assist contest and added six digs, one service ace and two block assists.
Olivia Tom led Hilbert with 11 digs and
Serena Tecl and
Kamalei Lene each picked up their first collegiate service ace.
Hilbert returns to action when they host their home opener September 5 at 1 pm vs Keuka College
