MARCY, N.Y. – The Hilbert College women's soccer team opened their 2015 season against Utica College tonight at the SUNY Poly Classic. The Hawks suffered a 2-0 loss to the Pioneers in the night cap contest which was played under the lights on a warm and muggy evening.
Utica connected in the 10th minute when they stuffed one past
Jenna Castricone in goal for Hilbert. The Pioneers held a 1-0 advantage through half time but the Hawks defense shut down the central N.Y. team located just minutes from SUNY Poly, the host institution.
Hilbert came out with a different attitude and played with a stronger purpose in the second half. The Hawks were in the game the entire time, but in the 84th minute, the Pioneers took a 2-0 lead and deflated any thoughts of a forced overtime tie before the 90 minute horn.
Utica unleased 16 shots and
Jenna Castricone was credited with two saves. The Hawks fired six shots and forced the Pioneers into a pair of saves.
Jackie Morgan led Hilbert's charge with two shots and had support from
Jennifer Colvin,
Courtney Vaccaro,
Emily MacKinnon and
Ashley Iwanenko.
Hilbert returns to the pitch tomorrow at 12 noon when they face the host SUNY Poly who defeated Medaille College (3-0) in the 5pm opening game.
