HAMBURG, N.Y. –
Courtney Vaccaro got back on track today and notched a pair of goals in Hilbert College's 3-2 non-conference victory over visiting Wells College (1-8) in women's soccer.
The Hawks improved to 4-3 as they head to most important part of their season with a winning record.
Jennifer Colvin set-up Vaccaro with a nicely played ball to the center of the box that turned into the game's first goal in the 7th minute. Twenty-eight minutes later, Colvin scored her first goal of the season with a hard shot off a rebound in the center of the field to give Hilbert a 2-0 lead.
In the 42nd minute, Wells got a good angle on Hilbert's goalie after they played a long ball break away to cut the deficit to one by half time.
Statistically, it was an even game by the break. Although Wells had a two more corner kicks than the Hawks (2-0), Hilbert took one more shot (11-10).
Less than five minutes after half time, Vaccaro netted her second of the day (season 5th) which turned into the game winner (2nd of the season) and lifted Hilbert to a 3-1 lead.
Jackie Morgan picked up her second assist this season.
The Express pushed hard the final 15-minutes and found their final score at 63:16.
The Hawks had nine different players credited with shots today as Vaccaro finished with five (4 on goal). Colvin led the hosts with six shots and picked up her first three-point game of the season.
Jenna Castricone scooped nine saves to earn her fourth win as a collegiate goalie.
Hilbert opens this weekend's AMCC portion of the game schedule at La Roche College (3:15pm).
