Hilbert's Rally Falls Short, Claims 3rd Seed In NEAC Play-offs

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – Andrew Ulbrich scored three times for the Hawks, but Keuka College had too many weapons as the Wolfpack hung on for a 10-7 victory under the lights at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex tonight.

After falling behind by five goals after three periods, the Hawks battled back scoring three fourth quarter tallies, but time ran out and Keuka secured the #2 seed in the NEAC play-off which begins next Wednesday.  Morrisville, who knocked off Keuka last weekend, remains undefeated in the league play to claim the #1 seed.

Hilbert (8-5, 5-2), with one NEAC game remaining, has already wrapped-up a spot in the top four and has qualified for post season for the third consecutive season.

Hilbert racked-up 33 shots but only 19 shots were on goal.  Keuka unleased 37 shots with 26 tagged as on-goal.

Brenden Deady was credited with 16 saves in the loss.

Nathaniel Hyman scooped up five of Hilbert's 25 ground balls.  Roland Jimerson won 50% of the game's 20 face-offs sending the ball towards a Hilbert player after the restart.

Keuka put two points on the board in the first quarter before Shaughn Irving started a three-goal run by the Hawks.  Keuka broke-up the straight run with a score at 6:38 but the two Andrews (MacKay and Ulbrich) posted goals to even the score at 3-3 with 2:51 remaining.  The Wolfpack connected for a trifecta before the horn with the last two coming in the final 20-seconds of the second half.

Keuka continued their scoring streak and added three more to extend their lead but Ulbrich, with one minute remaining in the third quarter started the Hawks' final rally which extended into the fourth quarter.

Ulbrich and Ian Holtby connected off assists from Sean Purtill and Elliott Russillio giving Hilbert hope with just over five minutes remaining, trailing 9-6.  The Wolfpack notched their final hit reaching 10 goals and gave up one more Tyler Nicolott marker with 90 seconds remaining.

The Hawks will honor their nine graduating athletes prior to their last home game this weekend against Cobleskill.  Shaughn Irving, Roland Jimerson, Andrew MacKay, Bill Moleins, Adam McCulle, Sean Purtill, Elliott Russillio, Andrew Ulbrich and Alex Wisner will wear their home whites for the last time in their Hilbert career April 25.
