Men's Lacrosse Shines On Senior Day Against Cobleskill



HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College men's lacrosse team closed the regular season -portion of their 2015 schedule with a resounding 21-6 victory over Cobleskill today.  With a quick 11-3 lead by the break, the Hawks' were able to actually enjoy their Senior Day celebrations at half time before they continued the party into the second half.

Hilbert improved to 9-5 overall and dropped the Tigers to 3-11 on the year.  With the NEAC win, the Hawks improved to 6-2 with a full game ahead of Cazenovia who completed their season today at 5-3. 

Morrisville claimed the #1 seed with an undefeated league slate.  #2 Keuka (7-1) will host the #3 Hawks Wednesday, April 29 and #4 Cazenovia heads to Morrisville the same day.  The NEAC championship game (May 2) will be held at the highest remaining seeded team after the mid-week semi-final games.

Sean Purtill, Elliott Russillio and Ian Holtby each scored three goals while also credited with two assists.  Another Hawk earning 5 points today was Shaughn Irving who tossed around five assists.  In addition,  Drew Ulbrich posted three goals for Hilbert who got 50% of their offensive production from four different players.

Travis Hicks (six) and Aaron Valino (five) hustled to 11 of Hilbert's 49 ground balls.  Adam McCulle's defensive pressure led to three caused turnovers.

Hilbert held advantages in every team stat category today – 60-19 in shots; 49-35 in ground balls; 8-26 in turnovers and 14-3 in caused turnovers.

Hilbert opened up with a 6-0 lead with over six minutes remaining in the first quarter.  Elliott Russillio knocked down two markers to lead five different players who posted scores in the first period.

The Hawks worked for five more goals in the second session with Drew Ulbrich taking the lead (2 goals).  Cobleskill connected once at the end of the first and twice in the second quarter as they trailed 11-3 by half time.

Six different Hilbert players found the back of the net the third 15-minute period with a highlight of Travis Hicks earning his first collegiate goal with 0:59 on the clock.  Cobleskill snuck two goals past Adam Zawadzki who joined the field players at half time.

Hilbert adding four more tallies from three new players, as Matthew Simon knocked home his second score for the day in the fourth quarter.

Drew Ulbrich, Sean Purtill, Elliott Russillio, Adam McCulle, Bill Moleins, Andrew MacKay, Roland Jimerson, Alex Wisner, and Shaughn Irving were all celebrated with their families at half time.  This group of talented athletes, who have been a large part of the three consecutive NEAC post-season games, will be difficult to duplicate.
