Hawks Rout Mavs, 20-2

Buffalo, N.Y. – The Hilbert College men's lacrosse team faced off against NEAC foe Medaille College at All-High Stadium under the lights this evening. The Hawks walked away with a 20-2 victory, powered by Elliott Russillio's four goals and one assist. Russillio is now tied for the most career games played in, as tonight was his 51st.

Hilbert got on the board first after five minutes of play in the first quarter as Ian Holtby scored off a Bill Moleins pass. Four minutes later Andrew Ulbrich put the Hawks up by two goals. Medaille responded with two goals of their own to even it up but with forty seconds left Codie Thomas got the Hawks back on top, 3-2, going into the second quarter.

The goal by Thomas was the first of 18 unanswered goals by the Hawks. Hilbert notched seven in the second quarter, four in the third, and six in the fourth. Twelve Hawks were credited with goals on the night. Hilbert was strong in transition, clearing on 18 of their 21 attempts..

Sean Purtill scored twice and recorded three assists while Matthew Simon and Ulbrich each added two goals and one assist. Nathaniel Hyman led the Hawks with eight groundballs in addition to his one goal on his only shot attempt.

Brenden Deady recorded one save in the win, while Adam Zawadzki made three saves and held the Mavs scoreless while he was in net.

The imbalance in the scoreboard was a result of the 52 shots by the Hawks, compared to the Mavericks mere 11. Additionally, Medaille recorded 24 groundballs and Hilbert picked up 50 in the win. The Hawks also raked in 22 of the 24 face-offs.
