ALFRED, N.Y. – The Hilbert College men's lacrosse team is on a two-game winning streak after their 20-7 road victory over Alfred State today.
Elliott Russillio and
Drew Ulbrich served up four goals each as the Hawks outshot the Pioneers by a 61-21 margin. Ten different Hawks found the back of the net forcing Alfred State to burrow through three goalies over the course of the sixty minute game.
Sean Purtill (2 g/3a),
Elliott Russillio (4g/1a) and
Drew Ulbrich (4g/2a) were a constant threat to the Pioneers defense and when they didn't score, they found an open teammate.
Brenden Deady picked up his third win of the season while making four saves on the day.
Adam Zawadzki covered the frame the last 15 minutes and made two saves while giving up two goals.
Hilbert doubled-up A-State in ground balls (42-24) and won 23 of 30 face-offs.
Bill Moleins scooped-up a game high nine ground balls and
Nathaniel Hyman and
Travis Hicks added 6 and 5 ground balls respectively.
Roland Jimerson won 16 of Hilbert's 23 face-offs.
A-State blanked Hilbert in the first quarter and built a 3-0 lead with just three minutes remaining. The Hawks responded twice before the break and trailed 4-2 heading into the second quarter.
Hilbert woke up and broke away with seven second-period goals while giving up a single marker and held a 9-5 lead at intermission.
The Hawks continued with nine-more unanswered goals before the Pioneers connected twice in the fourth quarter. Hilbert finished the day with two more scores to capture a 20-7 non-conference win.
Hilbert returns to NEAC play this week when they host Wells College at Nichols school in North Buffalo Wednesday, April 1 at 3:30 pm.
