Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Russillio Scores Six in Hawks NEAC Win

BUFFALO, N.Y. –Hilbert College held a slight 6-4 lead at intermission, but the Hawks used an 8-0 run in the fourth quarter to pull away from Wells College and cruised to a 16-6 North Eastern Athletic Conference victory in men's lacrosse today.

Elliott Russillio led all players with 12 shots and scored six times for the Hawks who hosted the game at Peek Field on the Nichols School high school campus in North Buffalo.

Wells open the scoring just over four minutes into the first quarter but Russillio delivered a Matt Simon pass to the back of the net to even the score.  Both teams traded scores before Simon and Sean Purtill found space which gave Hilbert a 4-2 advantage heading in to the second.

The second and third quarters were identical as both teams netted twice in each period maintaining a two-goal Hilbert lead heading into the final quarter.

Drew Ulbrich started the run at 12:23 and Russillio continued it about three minutes later.  After that point, Hilbert found ways to score every 90-seconds or so for the next nine minutes until Codie Thomas finished the day's scoring with one second left on the clock.

Drew Ulbrich added three goals and four assists and Matthew Simon chipped in three assists along with his one tally.

Brenden Deady protected the house for the first 53-minutes and traded places with Adam Zawadzki on the sidelines the last seven minutes.  Deady finished with six saves while surrendering all six Express scores.  Zawadzki stopped one shot helping the Hawks to stay perfect in NEAC standings.

Hilbert dominated the front of the goal unleashing 58 shots while defensively holding Wells to only 22 shots.   The Hawks also scooped-up 47 ground balls, sixteen more than the Express.

Hilbert controlled the face-off circle as they won 20 of 26 restarts.  Roland Jimerson was credited with 20 of 24 victories and 12 ground balls.  When Jimerson wasn't picking up face-off ground balls, Nathaniel Hyman sprinted in and picked-up eight ground balls during the sixty minute game.

Travis Hicks and Andrew MacKay worked the middle of the field and finished with five ground balls each.

27 of Hilbert's 30 players competing today contributed in some fashion on the stat sheet and to the team's fourth victory of the season against three losses.

The Hawks will return to Peek Field this coming Saturday when they host La Roche College April 4 at 3pm.
