UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Oh. – After a last-minute site and city location was determined, the Hilbert College women's lacrosse team traveled to John Carroll University today and fell 16-2 in what was supposed to be the Hawks home-opener.
Sophomores
Nikki Schneider and
Megan Smith found the back of the net late in the first half to give Hilbert their only points during the sixty-minute game.
Stephanie Glaza made her first appearance in between the pipes for Hilbert and came up with 13 saves in the loss.
John Carroll tallied the game's first five goals in the game's first five minutes. But the Blue Streak didn't slow down after that as they strung together three more markers over the course of two minutes.
Megan Smith's unassisted goal at 18:41 assured there would be no shutout and
Nikki Schneider's goal (1:33) gave Hilbert a lift as they went to half time trailing 10-2.
The second half didn't get any easier for the Hawks who surrendered six more hits. John Carroll didn't let up either out shooting Hilbert by a 21-1 margin in the final thirty minutes. The Blue Streak held a 29-5 shots on goal advantage which produced the 13-3 save statistics for the goalies.
Hilbert was competitive in ground balls (22-25) but earned only three wins of the 20 draw controls during the match. John Carroll converted eight free position shots.
Hilbert returns to action in what, again, was supposed to be a home game on Sunday, March 22. The Hawks will host Morrisville State at a neutral site on the northwest side of Rochester. The game will be played at the College of Brockport beginning at 1pm.
