Men's Lacrosse Picks Up 14-7 Win in North Carolina

GREENSBORO, NC – The Hilbert College men's lacrosse team picked up their first win of the 2015 season on their last game during their southern swing, spring training week.  The Hawks doubled-up Greensboro with an explosive 7-goal first quarter burst to run away with a 14-7 victory.

Matthew Simon led the Hawks with four goals and three assists behind his eight shots for the game.  Sean Purtill (3 assists) and Andrew Tirabassi each netted twice while six other Hilbert players chipped in a single goal each.

Brenden Deady and Adam Zawadzki shared equal time between the pipes with Deady picking up his first win of the season making seven saves and giving up four goals.

The Hawks won 14 of the 23 face-offs as Brady Metcalf (7-12) and Roland Jimerson occupied the circle a majority of times for Hilbert.

25 Hawks found room on the game's stat sheet contributing to 35 team ground balls and 47 shots.  Greensboro trailed in both stats, picking up 31 ground balls and firing 34 shots.

Alex Wisner got the Hawks on the board first at 10:55 but that was short-lived as Greensboro responded at 9:29. Hilbert then tore the quarter up with six straight markers behind five Hawks – Simon was the only multi-goal scorer of the period.

Greensboro opened the second quarter on a three-goal run, cutting the score to 7-4, but Hilbert closed the half and started the 3rd with three more to build a 10-4 lead at 13:21 into third period.  Each team traded goals the rest of the way and Hilbert held on for the big win on the road.

Hilbert opens up the northern portion of the regular season schedule next Saturday, March 21 with a home game against Baldwin Wallace University.  The game site will be confirmed once this week's spring-like weather conditions have a chance to attack the varsity playing field.
