GREENSBURG, Pa. – Jerame Owens' career high 31 points propelled the Hilbert College men's basketball team to an important 99-83 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference road win at Pitt-Greensburg.
The Hawks put together a full forty-minute game and outshot the Bobcats earning a 16-point win. Today's game marked the second time this week that Hilbert scored 99 points or more in a regulation game.
Kirkland Ottey added another strong shooting performance sinking seven of eight shots from the floor to finish with 18 points.
Trevor Stark and
Sean Weisansal pumped in 14 points each and passed for five assists as well.
Xavier Major was perfect from the floor hitting three shots inside the paint and two from the foul line to pad the Hawks total with eight tallies.
Greensburg's Brian Heinie reached for 20 points and led the Bobcats with three steals. Marcus Thomas tossed in 17 points and added five assists, while Jerell Figueroa assisted seven times while scoring 14.
Hilbert started the game fast and took a quick-six point lead early. After Greensburg forced the first tie in the opening period, the Hawks continued their onslaught and built a 10 point spread (32-22) by 8:30. Hilbert held their lead until 1:52 when the hosts knotted the game again at 48-48. Both teams then traded layups in the paint before Greensburg launched a 3-pointer at the buzzer to go to the locker room up by three, 53-50.
Owens led the comeback trail dropping in three bunnies along with Major's bucket to swing an 8-5 Hilbert run into a 58-57 lead. Both teams traded hoops until Hilbert opened the game up with a 12-2 run fueled by six Owen points in the paint.
Hilbert cooled from a 67.8 field goal percentage to a 62.5% in the second half. While they were running for scores and attacking the rim, Greensburg struggled to maintain their shooting percentage. The Bobcats went from a 64.7% in the first 20-minutes to a 32.4% FG percentage the final period.
With the win, Hilbert forced a two-way tie for third place with Greensburg in the AMCC league standings with two games remaining. Both Hilbert and Greensburg have one more chance to knock off the top seed Penn State Behrend (15-1) this week; Hilbert gets their opportunity February 18 in Erie and will close out their regular season with a home game February 21 against Penn State Altoona.
Prior to the team introductions Saturday, the men's basketball program will honor seniors
