ERIE, Pa. - Tonight's AMCC match was all about runs and riding momentum. Undefeated in league play, Penn State Behrend improved to 13-11 overall with their sweep over Hilbert College in women's volleyball.
Hilbert (0-5) collected 18 kills and 37 digs in their 25-8,25-19,25-11 loss. Behrend posted 39 kills and nine service aces en route to their 5thstraight AMCC win.
Amanda Binder was credited with nine kills in 24 attempts to finish with .208 attack percentage.
Morgan Ott passed for 12 assists and was the only other Hawk who finished with a positive hitting percentage.
Kamalei Lene and
Ashley Viengmay led the royal and white with nine and eight digs respectively.
Hilbert opened the first set with a 3-1 lead before the Lions went on an 8-0 run and forced a Hilbert time out. Behrend took offbut the Hawks earned a few points to break up the runs before the hosts won 25-8.
Hilbert again, opened the second set with a 3-1 advantage before they found themselves in a 5-5 tie. Each team traded points until Behrend built a 3-point lead. The Hawks forced a few more knotted scores (11, 12, 15, 16) until the Lions inherited 3 of 4 points by Hilbert's hitting/passing errors (24-18).
Each team traded points early in the final set. Behrend earned six-straight points to take a 12-4 lead and never looked back.
Up next, the Hawks head to the College of Brockport for their two-day, four game invitational tournament October 16 and 17. Hilbert (0-18) is set to square off against the hosts for the second time this season (4pm) and then close Friday night with a 6pm game against Alfred University. The Hawks return the next afternoon for a 1pm match against SUNY Potsdam and 3pm contest against St. John Fisher on Saturday.
