ALTOONA, Pa –
Amber Hay and
Kelsi Ebert scored 12 points each and
Shannon Rogers added her fifth double-double hitting 11 points and 14 rebounds as the Hilbert women's basketball team suffered a 72-58 road loss to Penn State Altoona (3-9, 3-4) today.
Altoona's Devin Stessney led the Lions with 18 points and Moira Corrigan (17/15) and Madison Mossellum (12/11) each posted double-doubles.
Shannon Rogers scored six of the Hawks first nine points and
Emily Speidel and
Haley Oakes posted eight more markers to cut Altoona's lead to just six (25-19) at 4:57. The Lions stretched their lead to 16 two minutes later, but settled for a 37-27 half time score.
Both teams were very close statistically after twenty minutes of action. Hilbert held advantages in shooting percentage (34.2%-31.9%), points off turnovers (10-6), bench points (11-1), points in the paint (22-8) and fast break points (8-2). The only glaring difference was the home team outscoring Hilbert 11 to 0 at the foul line.
Shannon Rogers hit 4-of-5 from the floor and grabbed seven rebounds and
Haley Oakes netting five by the break.
Hilbert was never able to cut into Altoona's second-half double digit lead they built before intermission.
Amber Hay and
Kelsi Ebert matched scoring efforts posting eight points each the second period. Hay went 4-of-7 at the charity stripe while Ebert knocked down four jumpers.
For the game, Altoona won the battle of the boards (58-49) and grabbed 23 offensive rebounds. Hilbert's shooting percentage fell in the second half, but they did sink 10 second-half foul shots.
Hilbert notched more steals (14-11) and forced 23 Altoona turnovers.
Hilbert returns to action Wednesday, January 14 when they travel to Alfred State for a 5pm tip off.
