Hawks Fall to Spartans in Double Overtime

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Hilbert College men's soccer team fell in defeat to D'Youville College in double overtime October 8th in the first-of-two games pitting Western New York schools in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference match. 

Matt Hamister gave the Hawks an early first-half lead but the Spartans knotted the score and ultimately forcing over time.  D'Youville picked up their first league victory and improved to 2-7-1 overall and dropped the Hawks to 2-9-1 which kept them from securing their first AMCC win.

Matt Hamister delivered his ninth goal of the season when he landed his rebounded shot-off-the-post past the D'Youville goal keeper in the 31st minute.  Statistically, the Hawks dominated on offense outshooting the hosts 11-5.  By half time, Hilbert's Brendon Henry gathered in four saves and the Spartan's goalie was credited with six saves.

As the second half progressed, D'Youville created more scoring opportunities and finally snuck a header off a corner kick past Henry with less than twenty minutes left to play.  As the game clock wound down, both teams were aggressive on offense with D'Youville taking five corner kicks in the last ten minutes of regulation.

After neither team scored in the first ten-minute overtime period, the Hawks and Spartans played on into the next set.  At 103:28 D'Youville's Pat Mann lifted the hosts to victory.

Brandon Henry finished with match with eight saves and his teammates were credited with one addition save.  D'Youville outshot the Hawks 15-14 while both teams were credited with nine saves.

The Hawks are on the road again this weekend when they travel to the Pittsburgh area to battle Pitt-Greensburg October 11.  They return home the following weekend to host Franciscan University while honoring their senior men's soccer players.
