Box Score

HAMBURG, N.Y. – In a very hard fought soccer game with limiting scoring opportunities because of physical play, Mount Aloysius snuck out of western New York with a 1-0 victory September 28. Patrick Chea scored the game's only goal in the 67th minute and the Mounties (5-6, 1-0) held on for their first Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference win of the season. Hilbert dropped their first league game and moved to 2-5 (0-1).

Neither team found much room to maneuver in the first forty-five minutes of the game as we went to half time with a 0-0 score. The visitor's outshot the Hawks (11-8) and held a 2-1 advantage in corner kicks in the first half.

With about 23 minutes left in the second half, Patrick Chea's fancy footwork dropped a Hilbert defender which gave him just enough room to squeak a shot off that sailed past Jeremy Kraska for what turned out to be the only score of the game. But during the 90-minute match, each team was called for an off-sides which nullified their team's score and a few hard shots dented the cross bars as well.

HIlbert outshot the Mounties, with Matt Hamister connecting on eight of the 16 shots and Chea footed four of his team's 15. Jon Davison was a machine up top constantly challenging Sebastian Fountain in front of the Mount Aloysius frame.

The Mounties' Fountain was credited with five saves in goal, just a few less than Kraska's nine for Hilbert.

Hilbert has a few days to rest before they head to North Buffalo for their 5pm match at All-High Stadium (Main Street) against Medaille College.

At half time, the men's soccer program honored Jake Opala, four-year men's soccer alumni, in conjunction with their alumni day of celebrations. The feisty forward holds several records in the men's career leader stats: career goals, shots, assists in a single season as well as for his career. He is the Hawks leading point scorer with 28 goals and 18 assists.
