Box Score
HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College women's soccer team got back on the winning track today with a 4-0 shutout victory over Wells College. Two seniors shined in their homecoming to the varsity game field as
Sarah Schmidt and
Robbi Bailey (one assist) each netted twice, pushing Hilbert's record to 2-4.
It took about four minutes for
Jackie Morgan to find Bailey in front of the box for her first score of the season. Both teams played tough defense through the middle as they fought for ball control and possession. At the break, Hilbert still held a one-goal lead and advantage in shots (13-7).
After the fifteen minute intermission on a warm and sunny afternoon, Hilbert came out firing and controlled the pace the last forty-five minutes. Outshooting the Express (14-5) in the second half allowed them to stretch their lead.
Schmidt scored her first goal of the season in the 48th minute as she barreled through the Wells defenders and pushed the ball past Kylie Nishioka. Less than four minutes later, Bailey took Morgan's pass again for extended reach to the ball redirecting its path into the back of the net. And, at 55:01, Bailey fed Schmidt up the middle for a sneaky shot.
Hilbert's back line really kept the Wells offense under control with senior
Mary Mabon and freshman
Lauren Bugaj broking up several Express attempts towards the frame.
Erin Smith earn her second shutout of the season and was credited with three saves.
The Hawks open Allegheny Mountain College Conference play this weekend when they host a 1p/3p double header against Mount Aloysius College.
