Golden Eagles Chip Away at Hawks

BROCKPORT, N.Y. - Freshman Amanda Binder had a game high 10 kills (.368) leading Hilbert College in their 3-1 volleyball loss at the College of Brockport September 24. Shannon Memminger was credited with 29 of the team's 35 assists with Hilbert dropping to 4-10 overall.

Brockport (9-6) won the opening game 25-16 but dropped a close 26-24 decision in the second game. The Golden Eagles responded with a 25-21 win in game three and finished the match with a 25-18 win in game four.

Binder tallied her sixth collegiate game with double digit kills. Sophomore Allegra Johnson added nine kills (.273) and Kayla Lewis chipped in seven (.059). No other Hawk finished hitting in the positive percentage as Brockport controlled the net with a team (.286) hitting percentage.

In game one, Brockport jumped out to an early lead before Hilbert (4-10) scored five straight points for an 8-5 lead. The Golden Eagles called time out and regrouped scoring nine of the next 10 points and a 14-9 lead. The Hawks answered back one more time with four straight to cut the lead to 14-13 before Brockport rallied for six consecutive points and a 20-13.

In game two, the teams battled back and forth and Hilbert held a late 20-16 advantage before a Brockport time out. The Golden Eagles scored a pair of points but Hilbert answered back with two more before Brockport scored six of the next seven points to pull ahead 24-23. A Brockport kill attempt sailed out of bounds to even the score and the Hawks scored the final two points for the win to even the match at 1-1.

In game three, the score was even until Brockport rallied for six out of seven points when they trailed 15-14 and took a late 20-16 advantage. At 22-17, Hilbert scored four out of five points to narrow the gap to 23-21 before Brockport finished off the match with two unforced errors.

Hilbert jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the fourth game before a Brockport time out and a Golden Eagles rally with eight of the next 10 points. The score remained tight until late in the game with Brockport leading 17-15. The Golden Eagles scored six straight points for a commanding 23-15 lead. The Hawks scored a couple late points before the Golden Eagles finished the game and the match.

Hilbert's Chelsea Reischuck, Kayla Lewis and Jordan Botsford all reached for double-digit digs and Botsford earned five service aces during the four-sets.

Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference league play begins for the Hawks this weekend when they travel to Cresson, PA for two games. Hilbert opens against Mount Aloysius (5-12) at 10am and immediately follow that match with a 12pm contest against La Roche College (8-5).
