Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College men's basketball team (1-3) rallied from a five point halftime deficit to claim their first win of the season as they downed Hilbert College (3-1), 74-64. Elmira used a strong second half effort to seal the win, knocking down 60-percent of their shots after the break, six coming from beyond the arc.
Jerame Owens and
Trevor Stark had hot hands for Hilbert, as each made six-of-eight shots from the field and were perfect from the foul line. Owens led with 18 points, having made three 3-point shots and Stark added 14 points.
Elmira was led by Neil Randolph who scored a career-high 32 points and pulled down a game-high nine rebounds. Also contributing to the win was Josh Keys, who sank 17 second-half points with 18 (of his 23 points) secured from beyond the arc.
Elmira controlled the early goings of the first half after building a six point lead by 17:44. Hilbert responded with a 15-0 run due to a combination of players.
Trevor Stark hit back-to-back buckets and added two free throws to lead the come-back. But Elmira clawed back and scored the final five points of the first half, cutting the deficit to 34-29.
Elmira opened the second half with a quick 9-2 run to take their first lead of the game since the 12:05 mark of the first half. The Soaring Eagles used another timely scoring run outscoring Hilbert 9-0 to take a 50-41 lead with 11:47 to play.
However, Hilbert reclaimed the lead at the 5:48 mark at 55-53 and would eventually hold a three point edge with five minutes to play.

Jerame Owens free throws to give Hilbert their first advantage in the second half (55- 54) at 5:48. After another Owens three, which gave Hilbert a 58-55 hold, Elmira outscored the Hawks 19-6 to close the game.
Hilbert returns to action November 26th when they host Keystone College at 7pm before the Thanksgiving holiday mini-break. The Hawks then welcome Alfred University to Hamburg Saturday, November 30th with a 2pm tip.
