HAMBURG, N.Y. – Pitt-Greensburg's Tiffanni Downey earned a hat-trick for the visiting Bobcats as they rode her foot to a 5-1 AMCC victory over Hilbert College in women's soccer October 5.
Mary Mabon gave Hilbert their only score late in the game as the Hawks drop to 1-2 in league play, and 3-6 overall.
Downey scored her first goal just nine-minutes into the game when she chipped the ball up over
Grace Adams out-stretched arms. Both teams played smart and organized the rest of the half, with Greensburg (2-1, 3-7 overall) riding a 1-0 lead by half time.
Downey struck two more times, just after intermission (46:40, 49:28) to bring her season total to seven goals. Hilbert made a keeper change after Downey's third score with
Erin Smith in, and Adams out.
Greensburg's Stephanie Wehner paused and then connected with a score after a restart kick at 58:40.
Mabon repaid the favor at 70:20 when she converted her restart kick into points, cutting the score. But, at 84:14, Cianna Contestabile beat a Hawk defender and chipped the ball up over Smith for the final score of the day.
Greensburg outshot the Hawks (20-12).
Sarah Schmidt and
Jackie Morgan were credited with two shots on goal each. Smith finished with five saves and Adams three.
Hilbert hosts Alfred State Tuesday, October 8th (3pm). The original game date was September 21, but the non-conference game had to be rescheduled due to excess rain and poor field conditions.
