Men's Soccer Starts Second Season With Play-offs

ERIE, PA – In their last game of the regular season, the Hilbert College men's soccer team traveled to northwest Pennsylvania and battled in a 2-0 loss to Penn State Behrend (14-4-1, 8-1 AMCC) . With the setback, Hilbert secured the 6th seed in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play-offs.

Matt Hamister led the attack with team-high two shots, followed by single shots by Austin Mathis, Blake Barker and Jon Davison. The Lions took four-times more shots than Hilbert (20-5) and Barker's solo attempt was the only one on-target.

Jeremy Kraska was credited with four saves in his 15th start of the year for Hilbert.

Behrend tallied their game-winner at 26:33 when Charlie Sestito stopped the clock after placing a long throw-in by Mike Worthy in the goal past Kraska. Then, with less than 17-minutes to play, the Lions netted a cushion goal for the 2-0 victory.

For the second weekend in a row, the Hawks travel back to Pittsburgh November 2nd to face La Roche College (3rd seed) at Shaler High School (2pm) in the First Round of the AMCC play-offs. In the other first round game, #4 Penn State Altoona hosts Mount Aloysius (#5) while Medaille (#1) and Penn State Behrend (#2) earned first round byes.

The winner of the Hilbert/La Roche match will travel to Erie, PA and face Behrend, and the winner of Altoona/Mount Aloysius will drive into Buffalo to face Medaille (9-0). The highest seed remaining after the semi-final round will host the championship game November 9th.
