HAMBURG, N.Y. - Family and friends gathered to celebrate Senior Game with the four Hawk seniors,
Amber Bailey,
Robbi Bailey,
Mary Mabon and
Sarah Schmidt. Despite the 4-1 loss, these seniors left it all out on the field and will have one more home game on Tuesday against D'Youville.
Altoona started off on the attack and scored on their second shot of the game. Megan Soo fed a ball to Casey Gavin down the wing, and Gavin sent a rocket into the back of the net. The Lions remained on the attack and Megan Soo ended up heading the game-winner into the net off a Katy Hartigan corner kick. Altoona finished the half up 3-0, with their third goal being scored by Daijanae Greene off of a ball from Soo.
Hilbert came out fighting in the second half, but numerous offsides calls held the Hawks from more scoring chances. Allysia Ketchem scored her eighth goal of the season to extend the Lions lead to 4-0. Lion's goalie Mackenzie Strubhar was minutes away from recording her third shutout of the season, until Hawks freshman
Imarie Waller dribbled right into the net for her first career goal. Walker was playing in just her second game after coming off of an injury. Strubhar made 5 saves and receives the win, while Hilbert's
Erin Smith made 23 saves in the loss.
Hilbert faces the second place D'Youville Spartans on Tuesday at 3pm for their final home game of the season.
